Potting Compounds for LED Lights

Light-Emitting Diodes (LED) are quickly replacing incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent bulbs.  There are many advantages to using LED lighting devices.  Not only can they last up to 50,000 hours but they have low heat emission, and low energy use. 

However, LED lighting device manufacturers must design their products so that heat produced within the LED device is removed by utilizing good thermal management.  Without good thermal transfer the internal (junction) of the LED rises and this causes damage to the LED.

LED lighting device manufacturers utilize two Epoxies, Etc. potting compounds as a tool in controlling heat transfer in their devices.

50-2369 UL 94V-0 listed Urethane Potting Compound

50-3150 UL 94V-0 listed Epoxy Potting Compound

These two products are commonly used due to their excellent thermal transfer properties and they are listed with UL (Underwriter's Laboratory) for passing UL 94 V-0.
